“Teach me how to live, O Lord. Lead me along the right path, for my enemies are waiting for me. Do not let me fall into their hands. For they accuse me of things I’ve never done; with every breath they threaten me with violence. Yet I am confident I will see the Lord’s goodness while I am here in the land of the living.”
Psalms 27:11-13 NLT David felt the stress of being attacked by adversaries. Not only did he, literally, fight with enemies in battle, he had to deal with false accusations and defamation of his character. He was pressed on every side. Do you ever feel that way? Constantly battling with adversity and grappling with the verbal attacks of those who oppose you? This kind of stress can debilitate us and make us feel overwhelmed. Like David, we must cry out to God in our distress and find our refuge. He will cover us in our times of storm, defend us in our times of battle, and calm us in our times of unrest. Indeed, God will grant us goodness while we walk this earthly life. He has showered us with so many goodnesses already. We have full and free salvation through Jesus, we get to wake up, enjoy the light of the day, have food for our bodies, clothes to wear, a roof above our head, and a bed to rest. In Him we find the source of goodness. When our lives are built upon Him, we have a sure confidence that everything is going to be just fine. If we are in His hands, we are in the best place possible. I’m sure you’ve heard the business slogan: “You are in good hands with Allstate!” Here is my slogan: “You are in good hands with Jesus!” “Are you in good hands?”
