“The wicked conceive evil; they are pregnant with trouble and give birth to lies.”
Psalms 7:14 NLT The heart and mind of the wicked are set on things that are ungodly. Their depraved condition does not allow them to conceive anything other than their nature. Just as we all have a natural, genetic makeup, we also have a spiritual makeup. We are all born into sin. “For I was born a sinner— yes, from the moment my mother conceived me.” Psalms 51:5 NLT “When Adam sinned, sin entered the world. Adam’s sin brought death, so death spread to everyone, for everyone sinned.” Romans 5:12 NLT Our inherent nature makes us prone to sin. The only remedy for this is for the curse to be broken in Jesus Christ. “The law of Moses was unable to save us because of the weakness of our sinful nature. So God did what the law could not do. He sent his own Son in a body like the bodies we sinners have. And in that body God declared an end to sin’s control over us by giving his Son as a sacrifice for our sins. He did this so that the just requirement of the law would be fully satisfied for us, who no longer follow our sinful nature but instead follow the Spirit. Those who are dominated by the sinful nature think about sinful things, but those who are controlled by the Holy Spirit think about things that please the Spirit. So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace. For the sinful nature is always hostile to God. It never did obey God’s laws, and it never will. That’s why those who are still under the control of their sinful nature can never please God.” Romans 8:3-8 NLT Wicked people are wicked because of sin. They act like their nature. These people are under the shadow of darkness. The knowledge of the light is absent in them. The product of wicked people is wickedness. The product of righteous people is righteousness. When we walk into a room that is dark, we immediately turn on the light. If the room remains dark, we don't blame the darkness, we blame the light. Darkness cannot illuminate anything. The only way for darkness to be dispelled is for light to invade the room. Even the faintest light can be seen in a dark room. As believers in Jesus Christ, we have the light of God in us. When we are born again, we are transformed from darkness to light, from wickedness to righteousness. “This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!” 2 Corinthians 5:17 NLT “This is the message we heard from Jesus and now declare to you: God is light, and there is no darkness in him at all. So we are lying if we say we have fellowship with God but go on living in spiritual darkness; we are not practicing the truth. But if we are living in the light, as God is in the light, then we have fellowship with each other, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, cleanses us from all sin.” 1 John 1:5-7 NLT As children of God, let us act like our nature and give birth to truth in a culture of darkness and lies. Let us shine the light of Jesus in the darkness. “You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.” Matthew 5:14-16 NLT Prayer for today: Father, in Jesus name, thank You for redeeming me from wickedness and transforming me into a child of the light. Help me walk in the light and shine it for the world around me to see.
