The Lord gives his people strength. He is a safe fortress for his anointed king. Save your people! Bless Israel, your special possession. Lead them like a shepherd, and carry them in your arms forever.”
Psalms 28:8-9 NLT David acknowledged that God is the strength of His people. Regardless of the circumstances, David knew the safest place for him to be was in God's hands. As the king, his desire for the nation of Israel was for God to bless them. He knew that God's blessing was necessary for success in battle and for peace and prosperity in the land. When you listen to his words in last part of today's scripture, you can feel the tenderness of his heart for God and the nation which God had entrusted beneath his authority. Would to God we had leaders like this, men who would seek the face of God and desire His will and way to be employed. My heart aches as I watch the political and social unrest that disrupts our nation. Wickedness on every hand and leaders who applaud it rather than disdain it. Our nation is in deep trouble and the only safe place for God's people is in His care. God is our refuge, our shield, our fortress, our provision, and our everlasting promise. No matter what is transpiring around us, though the winds of wickedness howl, let us be confident in this one thing: God is our sure and safe place. Trust and rest in Him today.
