“O God, your ways are holy. Is there any god as mighty as you? You are the God of great wonders! You demonstrate your awesome power among the nations. By your strong arm, you redeemed your people, the descendants of Jacob and Joseph. (Interlude) When the Red Sea saw you, O God, its waters looked and trembled! The sea quaked to its very depths. The clouds poured down rain; the thunder rumbled in the sky. Your arrows of lightning flashed. Your thunder roared from the whirlwind; the lightning lit up the world! The earth trembled and shook. Your road led through the sea, your pathway through the mighty waters— a pathway no one knew was there! You led your people along that road like a flock of sheep, with Moses and Aaron as their shepherds.” Psalms 77:13-20 NLT
God is the infinite Potentate! He doesn’t possess a measure of power. Power finds its source in Him! He is the Almighty!!! The psalmist declares the awesome power of God with very descriptive language. He calls the Lord the God of wonders! The surrounding nations had observed the great and mighty things that God had performed on behalf of His people Israel. Just imagine what it must have been like to observe the supernatural power of God manifested at the shore of the Red Sea. Here in today’s scripture the psalmist describes it a phenomenal event. The waters of the sea trembled, quaked to their depths, the clouds dropped rain, thunder rumbled, lightning bolts flashed like arrows, a whirlwind blew, and the dark sky was illuminated by the lightning. The earth shook at the display of the power of its Creator! God paved a dry path across the floor of the Red Sea as an accommodation to His people. Their sandals didn’t even get a hint of mud on them. The waters stood like walls on either side. Perhaps the fish swam and gave a performance for them as they walked in utter amazement across the bed of this great body of water. Surely this was an extraordinarily awesome display of God’s power over nature. God led His people across the Red Sea to a place of safety and to their future. God is at work in our lives today as well. Whether you realize it or not, He is working all things together for the good of those who love Him. “And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.” Romans 8:28 NLT Great and Mighty is the Lord our God! Great and Mighty is He!!! No obstacle can obstruct the purpose of God. His Word conquers all things that oppose it. Listen to a few quotes from Napoleon Bonaparte: “The Bible is no mere book, but a Living Creature, with a power that conquers all that oppose it.” “The gospel is not a book; it is a living being, with an action, a power, which invades every thing that opposes its extension, behold! It is upon this table: This book, surpassing all others. I never omit to read it, and every day with some pleasure.” Napoleon, one of history’s most noted conquerors, recognized the power of God and His Word! I do not have the authority to say that he was, indeed, a true disciple of Jesus Christ, but he, at least in his intellect, acknowledged Jesus Christ’s divinity and superiority over all! The point is this: Men of various positions of power have come and gone, throughout history, but they all must bow before the majesty of our Lord and Master! Here are the words of our Lord: “...I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth.” Matthew 28:18 NLT Stand on His Word today!!! He will not fail you!! If God’s power is at work in your life, what do you need to fear? There is no greater power!!!
