And instantly I was in the Spirit, and I saw a throne in heaven and someone sitting on it. The one sitting on the throne was as brilliant as gemstones—like jasper and carnelian. And the glow of an emerald circled his throne like a rainbow.” Revelation 4:2-3 NLT
Transcending the human, natural state of man, John is transported into the supernatural presence of God in Heaven. There, he sees the throne of God. This throne, although royal and sovereign, is unlike any other throne. This is the throne of Yahweh - The Lord Jesus Christ! This is the throne of the self existent, all sufficient God. This throne isn't located in a palace. This Throne is located in a Temple. God is not a human monarch that needs a palace. All of creation is His! Isaiah said it like this: “This is what the Lord says: “Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool. Could you build me a temple as good as that? Could you build me such a resting place?” Isaiah 66:1 NLT “This is what the Lord says— your Redeemer and Creator: “I am the Lord, who made all things. I alone stretched out the heavens. Who was with me when I made the earth?” Isaiah 44:24 NLT The psalmist said it like this: “The heavens are yours, and the earth is yours; everything in the world is yours—you created it all.” Psalms 89:11 NLT Knowing that there is Someone overseeing the events of earth is consoling. Revelation 4 transitions from the Word of Jesus to His Church to the Word of Jesus to His World and from earth to heaven. He is Lord of Heaven and earth. We can rest in the fact that He is in control. The events of Revelation 4-18 should not make us fearful as children of God. We should praise Him and give Him thanks for His sovereign rule. Pray this prayer with me today: Father, in Jesus name, thank you for redeeming us and preparing a place for us. As we travel through this dark world, please grant us grace to endure for Your names sake. Keep our eyes on Heaven and our ears in tune with the Holy Spirit. In Jesus name. Amen!!
