Dear brothers and sisters, be patient as you wait for the Lord’s return. Consider the farmers who patiently wait for the rains in the fall and in the spring. They eagerly look for the valuable harvest to ripen. You, too, must be patient. Take courage, for the coming of the Lord is near.” James 5:7-8 NLT
As believers in Christ, we have heard the message heralded of His return. This is the event that is the "Blessed Hope" of the believer. Titus 2:13 says “Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;” KJV The greatest event in human history will be the return of Jesus Christ our Lord. There are many great events in history. Towering above and beyond the rest are: (In ascending order with one yet to occur) 4. The Birth of Christ 3. The Death of Christ 2. The Resurrection of Christ 1. The Second Coming of Christ Let me be clear here. I am not placing less significance on any of them. They all work in sync to bring us the gospel message. Without any of the four they fall apart. Since the other three have occurred, it should be believed, with certainty, that the one yet to happen is most definitely going to. As believers in Jesus, we should place our hope in Him and Him alone. Nothing, or no one of this world can give us the certainty of the future. Jesus is eternal!!! His Word is eternal!!! We should not be searching for hope in the religious, political , social, material, financial, and temporary realm of this fallen world. We MUST trust in Christ alone! We must look beyond where we are to where we are going. We must live to live again. This life is perishing but our life In Jesus is unending. Don't cling to what you cannot keep. Hold tightly to what cannot, and will not, fail. Don't get caught up in the unbelief of the scoffers of this world. “Most importantly, I want to remind you that in the last days scoffers will come, mocking the truth and following their own desires. They will say, “What happened to the promise that Jesus is coming again? From before the times of our ancestors, everything has remained the same since the world was first created.” 2 Peter 3:3-4 NLT God always keeps His Word! “But you must not forget this one thing, dear friends: A day is like a thousand years to the Lord, and a thousand years is like a day. The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent.” 2 Peter 3:8-9 NLT It is the mercy of God that is giving man the opportunity to repent. “And remember, our Lord’s patience gives people time to be saved. This is what our beloved brother Paul also wrote to you with the wisdom God gave him—” 2 Peter 3:15 NLT “Look! He comes with the clouds of heaven. And everyone will see him— even those who pierced him. And all the nations of the world will mourn for him. Yes! Amen!” Revelation 1:7 NLT “Understand this: If a homeowner knew exactly when a burglar was coming, he would keep watch and not permit his house to be broken into. You also must be ready all the time, for the Son of Man will come when least expected.” Matthew 24:43-44 NLT Are you ready and patiently waiting?
