“Our God is a God who saves! The Sovereign Lord rescues us from death.” Psalms 68:20 NLT
Here in this scripture we read a declaration that God is our deliverer, rescuer, and victor. In Him we have victory!! In ourselves, we are lost and defeated. Only God can redeem us for the awful clutches of sin and death. Sin, the source of all our struggles, holds us captive and demands a ransom. That ransom is the blood of a perfect sacrifice. None of us are perfect!! What, then, do we do? If no human descendant of Adam is perfect, because of our inherent sinful nature, then where do we turn? We turn to someone who was human but had God as His Father! You see, the problem had to do with the blood line. The descendants of Adam had his nature, sin. “When Adam sinned, sin entered the world. Adam’s sin brought death, so death spread to everyone, for everyone sinned.” Romans 5:12 NLT The only hope of redemption was for someone to be born of woman, yet have God as His Father! By the Holy Spirit, Jesus Christ became incarnate (in human flesh). He was conceived in the womb of a virgin named Mary (see Isaiah 7:14, Matthew 1:23, and Luke 1:26-34) and had the blood line of His Father, God! “This is how Jesus the Messiah was born. His mother, Mary, was engaged to be married to Joseph. But before the marriage took place, while she was still a virgin, she became pregnant through the power of the Holy Spirit.” Matthew 1:18 NLT His blood was free from the depravity of Adams nature. “But there is a great difference between Adam’s sin and God’s gracious gift. For the sin of this one man, Adam, brought death to many. But even greater is God’s wonderful grace and his gift of forgiveness to many through this other man, Jesus Christ. And the result of God’s gracious gift is very different from the result of that one man’s sin. For Adam’s sin led to condemnation, but God’s free gift leads to our being made right with God, even though we are guilty of many sins. For the sin of this one man, Adam, caused death to rule over many. But even greater is God’s wonderful grace and his gift of righteousness, for all who receive it will live in triumph over sin and death through this one man, Jesus Christ. Yes, Adam’s one sin brings condemnation for everyone, but Christ’s one act of righteousness brings a right relationship with God and new life for everyone. Because one person disobeyed God, many became sinners. But because one other person obeyed God, many will be made righteous.” Romans 5:15-19 NLT He was sinless!!! “And you know that Jesus came to take away our sins, and there is no sin in him.” 1 John 3:5 NLT “This is the message we heard from Jesus and now declare to you: God is light, and there is no darkness in him at all.” 1 John 1:5 NLT “So then, since we have a great High Priest who has entered heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to what we believe. This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin.” Hebrews 4:14-15 NLT He lived a sinless life, died a substitutionary death on the cross as payment for the sins of all mankind, and three days later, He got up from the grave!!! “I passed on to you what was most important and what had also been passed on to me. Christ died for our sins, just as the Scriptures said. He was buried, and he was raised from the dead on the third day, just as the Scriptures said.” 1 Corinthians 15:3-4 NLT (Someone ought to be shouting right now) Jesus Christ is the Lord Who Saves! God stepped into a man's body in the person of Jesus Christ! This man was no ordinary man. He was God and man! 100% God, 100% man. “For in Christ lives all the fullness of God in a human body.” Colossians 2:9 NLT Only a perfect, sinless sacrifice would atone for Adams sin! Jesus did just that!! Through Him we have salvation! He is the Lord of Salvation! Through Him we have victory! “For sin is the sting that results in death, and the law gives sin its power. But thank God! He gives us victory over sin and death through our Lord Jesus Christ.” 1 Corinthians 15:56-57 NLT “He is so rich in kindness and grace that he purchased our freedom with the blood of his Son and forgave our sins.” Ephesians 1:7 NLT In Him we are saved and given deliverance!!! He, indeed, is the LORD WHO SAVES!!!
