And I remind you of the angels who did not stay within the limits of authority God gave them but left the place where they belonged. God has kept them securely chained in prisons of darkness, waiting for the great day of judgment.” Jude 1:6 NLT
Some of the angelic host rebelled and sinned against God. They are forever doomed because of their choice. They cannot be saved! They will be eternally punished by God for their willful disobedience. Take a look at this verse: “For God did not spare even the angels who sinned. He threw them into hell, in gloomy pits of darkness, where they are being held until the day of judgment.” 2 Peter 2:4 NLT Sounds almost identical to Jude 6. The content and context are identical. You could parallel 2 Peter 2 and Jude. They are virtually the same. Both speak of the results of false teaching and sinful rebellion against God. Today, especially in America, and even around the world, we need to be sternly reminded of the cost of disobedience and outright rebellion against God. If God didn't spare the angels, surely he won't spare those who disregard the Lordship of Christ, trample under foot the blood of the everlasting covenant, and do despite unto His marvelous grace. We need preachers who preach against ungodliness and who also proclaim forgiveness for those who repent. It seems that many want to preach grace without preaching righteousness. I'm not insinuating that we can achieve righteousness. However, I am absolutely declaring that God's grace should lead us into righteousness! We cannot ignore the simple and true fact that Jesus body and blood are payment for our wickedness. Therefore, it behoves us to live with the crystal clear clarity of what it cost to redeem us. “For you know that God paid a ransom to save you from the empty life you inherited from your ancestors. And it was not paid with mere gold or silver, which lose their value. It was the precious blood of Christ, the sinless, spotless Lamb of God.” 1 Peter 1:18-19 NLT Those who disregard this are degrading what is Most Holy! “Just think how much worse the punishment will be for those who have trampled on the Son of God, and have treated the blood of the covenant, which made us holy, as if it were common and unholy, and have insulted and disdained the Holy Spirit who brings God’s mercy to us.” Hebrews 10:29 NLT
