God blesses the one who reads the words of this prophecy to the church, and he blesses all who listen to its message and obey what it says, for the time is near.” Revelation 1:3 NLT
This blessing is very specific. God proclaims a blessing upon those who read this book (Revelation), listen to its message, and obey it. Revelation is very unique in that it is solely prophetic and eschatological (concerning end time events). This book is about consummation. God's character and program are unveiled in this book. The book's name indicates "unveiling" or "disclosure". The word "Apocalypse" is used in reference to its events. The book of "Revelation" in the Greek text is called "Apokalypsis Ioannou" or "Revelation of John". John, the apostle, is exiled on the island of Patmos (a small island in the Aegean Sea) for his faith in Jesus Christ and for his proclamation of the gospel. In this book, John is writing what he sees in this "Revelation". Jesus, the resurrected Christ, is depicted in visions and symbols. In this book, Jesus comes to display His ultimate authority, His judgment upon the earth, His power to remake it, and His Supreme rule over it. This book helps us understand the power of Christ over His church, His power over the world, His power over Satan, and His power over all of creation. This book helps us frame up the end time events, gives us a startling, clarion call to prepare for the ultimate destruction of the current world we live in, and the absolutely gratifying sneak peak at the new heaven and earth on which we will dwell. This book is extraordinary!!!Children of God should embrace its implications rather than be disturbed by them. Jesus is our all in all. He rules over all and will, one day soon, reveal Himself to the entire world of humanity (past, present, and future). “Dear friends, we are already God’s children, but he has not yet shown us what we will be like when Christ appears. But we do know that we will be like him, for we will see him as he really is. And all who have this eager expectation will keep themselves pure, just as he is pure.” 1 John 3:2-3 NLT “Therefore, God elevated him to the place of highest honor and gave him the name above all other names, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue declare that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” Philippians 2:9-11 NLT “Look! He comes with the clouds of heaven. And everyone will see him— even those who pierced him. And all the nations of the world will mourn for him. Yes! Amen!” Revelation 1:7 NLT For those who accept Him now, great joy awaits us in His revelation to the world. For those who reject Him, great mourning. I choose Him now!! For those who choose Him now, the best is yet to come. Hallelujah!
