The Almighty One

“I am the Alpha and the Omega—the beginning and the end,” says the Lord God. “I am the one who is, who always was, and who is still to come—the Almighty One.”” ‭‭Revelation‬ ‭1:8‬ ‭NLT‬‬

The "I Am" here refers to Jesus! The KJV, NKJV, NASB, and AMP versions use red letters in this verse, indicating that this is Jesus speaking. In John 8:58 Jesus used this same description of Himself.  “Jesus answered, “I tell you the truth, before Abraham was even born, I AM! ”” ‭‭John‬ ‭8:58‬ ‭NLT‬‬ The words "Alpha" and "Omega" are the beginning and ending of the 24 letter Greek alphabet. The New Testament was written in the Greek language, which was the common language of the Eastern Mediterranean of the time. The Greek language is an important part of New Testament Biblical interpretation. Understanding the Greek words, and their  definitions, gives us precise context of translation and application.  In today's verse (Revelation 1:8) Jesus is saying, to John the apostle, that He is the I Am who is the beginning and who is the end. Everything within life is in Him. He is the letters that compose the book of life itself. He is the Everlasting God!!! He had no predecessor. He'll have no successor. He precedes all others in His priority, He exceeds all others in His Superiority, and He succeeds all others in His finality. No one came before Him. No one will come after Him! He Is!!! He was!! He always will be!!! He is the Almighty!!!  The word '"Almighty" is from the noun masculine Greek word transliterated "pantokrator" which means "ruler of all, ruler of the universe, the Almighty". Fully understood, it means "unrestricted power with absolute authority."  Take a look at Matthew 28:18:  “Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth.” NLT‬‬ Jesus is the Almighty God!!! This is the primary purpose of the book of Revelation - to reveal who Jesus is. The Secondary purpose is to tell the world what He will do in His return to earth. He will reveal Himself to the world He created, judge sin and wickedness , set all things back in order, and will reign as King of kings and Lord of lords!  This day is coming! Count on it!
