Love the Creator, Not the Creation

You adulterers! Don’t you realize that friendship with the world makes you an enemy of God? I say it again: If you want to be a friend of the world, you make yourself an enemy of God.” ‭‭James‬ ‭4:4‬ ‭NLT‬‬

The word "adulterer" is literally adulteress in the original Greek language. The reason for this is simple: we are the bride of Christ. When we are unfaithful to Him we become adulteresses. He is never unfaithful to us!!! The word "friendship" has to do with fondness. When we are fond of the fallen, sinful state of the world, we lose our focus on eternity and the reality that this life, as we know it, is perishing. We must never forget that this current way of life is only temporary. In John 15:19 Jesus says: “The world would love you as one of its own if you belonged to it, but you are no longer part of the world. I chose you to come out of the world, so it hates you.” NLT‬‬ I John 2:15-17 sates: “Do not love this world nor the things it offers you, for when you love the world, you do not have the love of the Father in you. For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father, but are from this world. And this world is fading away, along with everything that people crave. But anyone who does what pleases God will live forever.” ‭‭NLT‬ When we fall in love with the sinful order of this world, we are committing spiritual adultery on Jesus. Many of us are addicted to the things of this world. We have become so accustomed to this way of life that we have lost sight of it's end. We must love the Creator, not creation. The life we now know is perishing. May God help us keep our eyes on Jesus, our focus on eternity, and our priorities in order while we are here in this world.
