“But may all who search for you be filled with joy and gladness in you. May those who love your salvation repeatedly shout, “The Lord is great!” Psalms 40:16 NLT
Are you searching for God? Not that He's lost, you are! Have you ever heard someone say "I found the Lord"? In actuality, God found them. They were the one lost. The idea of searching for God isn't one of rescuing Him. He doesn't need salvation. We do!!This searching is about pursuing right fellowship with Him. He is right there, waiting for us to turn to Him. God is forever the same. He has always been who He is and where He is! “Before the mountains were born, before you gave birth to the earth and the world, from beginning to end, you are God.” Psalms 90:2 NLT “Your throne, O Lord, has stood from time immemorial. You yourself are from the everlasting past.” Psalms 93:2 NLT “I am the Lord, and I do not change. That is why you descendants of Jacob are not already destroyed.” Malachi 3:6 NLT “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.” Hebrews 13:8 NLT When David, the psalmist, talks of searching for God, He is referring to those whose hearts are pursuing Him. God is everywhere. This is called Omnipresent (Omni - all). There is nowhere we can go that He isn't there. The issue is whether we are in tune with Him. Have you ever had to tune in the dial of a radio just to get the proper frequency signal? How about turn a TV antenna to receive a signal (that one will only be remembered by the older among us). This is the idea. The signal may be present but the dial must be adjusted to receive it. Are you tuned in to God? Seriously, are you? I'm not asking if you are fond of Him, acknowledge Him, or even claim to know Him. I am asking if you are in tune with Him? A car can run without being in tune, but if it is in tune it will operate at full potential and run most efficiently. Many church going and non-church going people are religious. They claim a relationship with God. However, there is no communication with Him and no submission to His Word! What God wants are disciples who truly seek Him, those who passionately love Him and desire a personal, intimate relationship with Him. Few ever find that place. How sad it is, too! If the world only knew the absolute peace and fulfillment that come from the person and presence of God! Only in His presence can true joy be found (see Psalm 16:11). We seek after so many frivolous things that amount to nothing in the end. What we must be searching for is the heart of God! In Him we live, move, and have our being (see Acts 17:28). For those who have stopped chasing the wind and have decided to chase the heart of God, joy and gladness are yours. Do you love the Lord? Again, I'm not asking if you are fond of Him and simply glad that you aren't going to Hell. Now, I know that's a big deal! I'm not minimizing eternal wrath. What I am saying is that God wants a people who love Him for who He is, not just for what He does for them. Do you love the Lord?? If so, shout His praises! Tell of His greatness!!!
