“Do not be like a senseless horse or mule that needs a bit and bridle to keep it under control.”
Psalms 32:9 NLT This made me chuckle as I read it. I have observed people who behave like senseless creatures. With no regard for themselves or those affected by their conduct, they live their lives impulsively and irrationally. These people seem to have no compass that guides them along the way of life. Their actions develop habits, their habits develop a certain character, and their character determines their destiny. The ultimate end of those people is utter destruction. Without the slightest regard for eternity, they live for the moment. Life is all about living for the "weekend", the next party, or the next great sporting event! Foolishly, they live for the wrong things! Life, for them, is about what makes them feel good, what is convenient, or what is in their own interest. These people walk around with blinders on and have no peripheral circumspection. There is no wholesome thinking, only momentary, impulsive, self preservation. God wants us to live life under the His loving Lordship! With Him at the helm, we have proper direction as we sail over life's troubled waters. The sea of life that we navigate each day is sometimes tempestuous. Rogue waves, from out of nowhere, rise and crash against our vessel. We need the guiding and protecting hand of God to set us on course and keep our ship afloat. Going through life without submitting to God and His Word is like traveling in utter darkness without a ray of light to help us see where we are going. In our sin we are senseless and stubborn. We meander around lost and without direction. Let's not be senseless. Let's repent of our sin and let Jesus take control and guide our steps.
