And Jesus Christ was revealed as God’s Son by his baptism in water and by shedding his blood on the cross —not by water only, but by water and blood. And the Spirit, who is truth, confirms it with his testimony. So we have these three witnesses — the Spirit, the water, and the blood—and all three agree. Since we believe human testimony, surely we can believe the greater testimony that comes from God. And God has testified about his Son. All who believe in the Son of God know in their hearts that this testimony is true. Those who don’t believe this are actually calling God a liar because they don’t believe what God has testified about his Son. And this is what God has testified: He has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have God’s Son does not have life.” 1 John 5:6-12 NLT
Jesus is the Son Of God! This statement attributes Divinity to Him. This fact was confirmed by heavenly and earthly testimony. In the courts of the Jewish people, two or three witnesses were required to establish the facts. One testimony wasn't sufficient (see Deuteronomy 17:6 and 19:15). Jesus spoke this same thing about personal offenses in Matthew 18:16 “But if you are unsuccessful, take one or two others with you and go back again, so that everything you say may be confirmed by two or three witnesses.” NLT Here, in today's scripture, we see three witnesses. 1. The water baptism of Christ. 2. The shedding of His blood. 3. The Holy Spirit's anointing. Jesus came to the baptism of John the Baptist. There He entered the waters of baptism and told John to baptize Him. “But John tried to talk him out of it. “I am the one who needs to be baptized by you,” he said, “so why are you coming to me?” But Jesus said, “It should be done, for we must carry out all that God requires. ” So John agreed to baptize him.” Matthew 3:14-15 NLT Jesus did not need to baptized for remission of sin. He was baptized because He was the One who had come to bring remission for sin. His baptism was an act of human ceremonial submission to His Divine earthly ministry and purpose. The baptism was an inauguration. Jesus earthly ministry began that day. John the Baptist had prepared the way for the coming of the One who would baptize in the Holy Spirit. When Jesus was baptized by John, the Holy Spirit descended upon Him like a dove. A voice from heaven was heard saying that Jesus was the Son of God. “Then Jesus went from Galilee to the Jordan River to be baptized by John. But John tried to talk him out of it. “I am the one who needs to be baptized by you,” he said, “so why are you coming to me?” But Jesus said, “It should be done, for we must carry out all that God requires. ” So John agreed to baptize him. After his baptism, as Jesus came up out of the water, the heavens were opened and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and settling on him. And a voice from heaven said, “This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy.”” Matthew 3:13-17 NLT Jesus spent the next three and a half years pouring Himself into the disciples He had chosen. At age 33 Jesus was arrested, tried, beaten (scourged), and crucified. His blood was poured out for mankind. “For you know that God paid a ransom to save you from the empty life you inherited from your ancestors. And it was not paid with mere gold or silver, which lose their value. It was the precious blood of Christ, the sinless, spotless Lamb of God.” 1 Peter 1:18-19 NLT By doing this, He proved Himself to be the Savior of the world. The evidence speaks for itself. Jesus is the Son Of God!!!!!!!
