“Then I said, “Look, I have come. As is written about me in the Scriptures: I take joy in doing your will, my God, for your instructions are written on my heart.”” Psalms 40:7-8 NLT
Psalm 40:6-8 was originally written in Hebrew. A similar quotation can be found in Hebrews 10:5-7. The book of Hebrews was originally written in the Greek language. In both languages the passages are similar. In Hebrews 10 we discover that the writer attributes the words of Psalm 40 to Jesus. Jesus fulfilled the prophecy. Jesus was the human body that replaced the animal sacrificial system. God has never wanted anything less than a human being that is in His image and completely obedient to His Word. The first man, Adam, was given that opportunity, but failed. He was a created human being, in the image of God (see Genesis 1-3). None of us, as created human beings, could accomplish complete obedience. Jesus did! He was obedient in all things that God required. “While Jesus was here on earth, he offered prayers and pleadings, with a loud cry and tears, to the one who could rescue him from death. And God heard his prayers because of his deep reverence for God. Even though Jesus was God’s Son, he learned obedience from the things he suffered.” Hebrews 5:7-8 NLT He is called the "last Adam" in 1 Corinthians. The Scriptures tell us, “The first man, Adam, became a living person.” But the last Adam—that is, Christ—is a life-giving Spirit.” 1 Corinthians 15:45 NLT Adam was created. Jesus was the Creator! “Adam, the first man, was made from the dust of the earth, while Christ, the second man, came from heaven.” 1 Corinthians 15:47 NLT Jesus did not find His beginnings in a stable. He pre-existed all things. He was from the beginning (see John 1:1-18; John 1:15, 30; Colossians 1:15-22: Hebrews 1:1-4). God became a man! Jesus is the God-Man! He is the only human being who ever lived a sinless life (2 Corinthians 5:21; Hebrews 4:15; 1 John 3:5). In this manner, He was qualified to be the all-sufficient sacrifice for sin. He paid a debt He did not owe. We owed a debt we could not pay. “In this way, God qualified him as a perfect High Priest, and he became the source of eternal salvation for all those who obey him.” Hebrews 5:9 NLT Jesus is the One whom the Scriptures declared. All the way back to Genesis, and throughout the entire Old Testament, there are passages that speak of Him and prophesy about what He would do. Jesus fulfilled every one!!! Jesus is the One that the scriptures testify of. Jesus Himself said this: “You search the Scriptures because you think they give you eternal life. But the Scriptures point to me!” John 5:39 NLT If you have a red letter edition of the Bible, the words of John 5:39 are in red. This indicates Jesus speaking. Jesus can be found throughout the entire Bible! The Scriptures are about God and His work with sinful humanity. God has revealed Himself to us in the manifest form of Jesus Christ!!! “For in Christ lives all the fullness of God in a human body.” Colossians 2:9 NLT In Him, we are complete! So you also are complete through your union with Christ, who is the head over every ruler and authority.” Colossians 2:10 NLT In Jesus, the Word of God is manifest to us, ministered unto us, and merciful to all who call upon Him as Lord!
