“Come, see the glorious works of the Lord: See how He brings destruction upon the world. He causes wars to end throughout the earth. He breaks the bow and snaps the spear; He burns the shields with fire.”
Psalms 46:8-9 NLT No matter how advanced a generation may become in technology, God is still the One who holds all power in His hand!!! No finite intelligence or military might can withstand His Almighty person or power. Any nation, people, or culture that think they can somehow ignore God, and not pay the consequences, is utterly foolish. At the Tower of Babel, in Genesis 11, God had to set things straight when man felt that he could somehow ascend to the place of God. This has been the primary problem from the time of Satan's rebellion in beginning. We see a description of this in Isaiah 14. Although the text is referencing the king of Babylon, this could easily be seen as type and shadow of Satan because the king of Babylon was displaying the very nature and character of the original fallen one, Satan. Mankind often displays the nature and character of Satan because we are fallen to sin. Satan is the father of sin. When men are rebellious and arrogant, they are portraying their father, the devil! (see John 8:44). “How you are fallen from heaven, O shining star, son of the morning! (Lucifer in the KJV and NKJV). You have been thrown down to the earth, you who destroyed the nations of the world. For you said to yourself, ‘I will ascend to heaven and set my throne above God’s stars. I will preside on the mountain of the gods far away in the north. I will climb to the highest heavens and be like the Most High.’ Instead, you will be brought down to the place of the dead, down to its lowest depths. Everyone there will stare at you and ask, ‘Can this be the one who shook the earth and made the kingdoms of the world tremble? Is this the one who destroyed the world and made it into a wasteland? Is this the king who demolished the world’s greatest cities and had no mercy on his prisoners?’” Isaiah 14:12-17 NLT Jesus seems to allude to Satan's original, prideful fall in Luke: ““Yes,” he told them, “I saw Satan fall from heaven like lightning!” Luke 10:18 NLT Sinful, arrogant, pride will always end in destruction. “Pride goes before destruction, and haughtiness before a fall.” Proverbs 16:18 NLT “Haughtiness goes before destruction; humility precedes honor.” Proverbs 18:12 NLT God will have His will accomplished regardless of the ways of sinful men. He is sovereign!!! We would do well to humble ourselves before Him and submit to His will and way! Prayer for today: Father, in the name of Jesus, forgive me of my sinful pride! Forgive our nation of its sinful pride! I beg You to shower Your mercy upon us, O Lord!! We do not deserve Your blessings but we plead for Your loving kindness and tender mercies! Without them, O Lord, we will fail and fall! Fill us with Your Holy Spirit that we may walk in accordance with Your Holy Word! Amen!!
