O God, insolent people rise up against me; a violent gang is trying to kill me. You mean nothing to them. But you, O Lord, are a God of compassion and mercy, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love and faithfulness. Look down and have mercy on me. Give your strength to your servant; save me, the son of your servant. Send me a sign of your favor. Then those who hate me will be put to shame, for you, O Lord, help and comfort me.”
Psalms 86:14-17 NLT Insolent, by definition, is to be contemptuously disrespectful. David, the king, was certainly feeling disrespected. Those who were supposed to be his subordinates were seeking his life. People who don't submit to God will not properly submit to all other authorities of life. When a man understands his subordinate place before God, he will understand this same practice before men. Many, in our time, are rebellious and insubordinate. This indicates their ignorance of the Word of God and their complete absence of a relationship with God! When one submits to God and His Word, their lives are impacted by His principles. Their practices correspond with, and conform to, those principles. When men ignore Him and His Word, their practices will indicate that as well. David was being assaulted by ungodly men. He needed Gods protection. He ran to his covering. God was his refuge and his strength. As the psalmist said in Psalm 46:1 “God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble.” NLT God is patient with mankind. If He weren't, we would all be destroyed. His mercy is the only reason we are still living! Finally, David asked for a display of God's favor upon him so that his enemies would see God's defense of him. Today, if you are a submitted follower of the Lord Jesus Christ, commend your life into His hands. He will defend you and vindicate your life.
