“Sing praises to God and to his name! Sing loud praises to him who rides the clouds. His name is the Lord — rejoice in his presence! Psalm 68:4 NLT
God's name was sacred and incommunicable to the Jewish people. YHWH (Yahweh or Jehovah) was His most identified name. The Jewish people thought of God's name as utterly sacred and did not want to utter it in words. Names and titles have been given to Him in many distinctions. Here are some: • Adonai (Lord God) “Praise the Lord, the God of Israel, who lives from everlasting to everlasting. Amen and amen!” Psalms 41:13 NLT • Elohim (Father God, God the Creator) “Father to the fatherless, defender of widows— this is God, whose dwelling is holy.” Psalms 68:5 NLT • El -Roi (The God who sees me) “The Lord is good, a strong refuge when trouble comes. He is close to those who trust in him.” Nahum 1:7 NLT • El-Shaddai (God Almighty) “Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty.” Psalms 91:1 NLT • El-Olam (The eternal God) “The eternal God is your refuge, and his everlasting arms are under you. He drives out the enemy before you; he cries out, ‘Destroy them!’” Deuteronomy 33:27 NLT “Have you never heard? Have you never understood? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of all the earth. He never grows weak or weary. No one can measure the depths of his understanding.” Isaiah 40:28 NLT • Yahweh - (God) Most often used in Hebrew Scripture and expanded to Jehovah“But Moses protested, “If I go to the people of Israel and tell them, ‘The God of your ancestors has sent me to you,’ they will ask me, ‘What is his name?’ Then what should I tell them?” God replied to Moses, “ I AM WHO I AM. Say this to the people of Israel: I AM has sent me to you.” God also said to Moses, “Say this to the people of Israel: Yahweh, the God of your ancestors—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob—has sent me to you. This is my eternal name, my name to remember for all generations.” Exodus 3:13-15 NLT • Yahweh Tsebaoth (The Lord of Hosts)“He (David - added for clarity) led them to Baalah of Judah to bring back the Ark of God, which bears the name of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies (hosts - added for clarity) , who is enthroned between the cherubim.” 2 Samuel 6:2 NLT “When he had finished his sacrifices, David blessed the people in the name of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies (hosts)." 2 Samuel 6:18 NLT • Yahweh Tsuri (God is my Rock)“For who is God except the Lord? Who but our God is a solid rock?” Psalms 18:31 NLT • Yahweh Shalom (The God of Peace) “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6 KJV “For Christ himself has brought peace to us. He united Jews and Gentiles into one people when, in his own body on the cross, he broke down the wall of hostility that separated us.” Ephesians 2:14 NLT • Yahweh Nissi (The Lord is my Banner) “May we shout for joy when we hear of your victory and raise a victory banner in the name of our God. May the Lord answer all your prayers.” Psalms 20:5 NLT • Yahweh Ropheka (The Lord who heals) “He said, “If you will listen carefully to the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right in his sight, obeying his commands and keeping all his decrees, then I will not make you suffer any of the diseases I sent on the Egyptians; for I am the Lord who heals you.”” Exodus 15:26 NLT • Yahweh Yireh (God provides)“Then Abraham looked up and saw a ram caught by its horns in a thicket. So he took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering in place of his son. Abraham named the place Yahweh-Yireh (which means “the Lord will provide”). To this day, people still use that name as a proverb: “On the mountain of the Lord it will be provided.”” Genesis 22:13-14 NLT • Yeshua (Jesus) “Once again the people picked up stones to kill him. Jesus said, “At my Father’s direction I have done many good works. For which one are you going to stone me?” They replied, “We’re stoning you not for any good work, but for blasphemy! You, a mere man, claim to be God.”” John 10:31-33 NLT “For in Christ lives all the fullness of God in a human body.” Colossians 2:9 NLT Jesus is the manifestation of the unseen Spirit God! “For God is Spirit, so those who worship him must worship in spirit and in truth.”” John 4:24 NLT In Jesus Christ, God revealed Himself to the world in human form. “Christ is the visible image of the invisible God. He existed before anything was created and is supreme over all creation, for through him God created everything in the heavenly realms and on earth. He made the things we can see and the things we can’t see— such as thrones, kingdoms, rulers, and authorities in the unseen world. Everything was created through him and for him. He existed before anything else, and he holds all creation together.” Colossians 1:15-17 NLT In His Name we praise and magnify the very God of all creation! Let us praise and magnify His Name today!!
