But He gives us more and more grace [through the power of the Holy Spirit to defy sin and live an obedient life that reflects both our faith and our gratitude for our salvation]. Therefore, it says, “GOD IS OPPOSED TO THE PROUD and HAUGHTY, BUT [continually] GIVES [the gift of] GRACE TO THE HUMBLE [who turn away from self-righteousness].” So submit to [the authority of] God. Resist the devil [stand firm against him] and he will flee from you.” James 4:6-7 AMP
God's grace is sufficient to do anything that's needed. He is waiting for us to yield to Him and submit ourselves in obedience. This takes humility. Humility is the ability to harness our sinful pride and submit it to the Lordship of Jesus Christ. When we do this, there is nothing that we cannot overcome. It is our pride that stubbornly stands between God and our deliverance. Pride is a barrier that only humility can overcome. Because of sin, we are prone to self reliance. We, somehow, suppose ourselves capable of "handling" things. The reality is that we are insufficient and incapable of dealing with our depraved nature. Only an humble, willful submission to the Lord Jesus Christ will reign in those sinful passions that rage in our flesh. God isn't impressed with our abilities. We aren't as good as we think. Only in, and through, the power of Jesus Christ can we have authority over Satan and his minions. Today, you have a choice to do it your way or to humble yourself before God and allow Him to take control. Don't let your stubborn pride lead you down the wrong road. Submit to Jesus and let Him put the devil on the run in your life.
