“Do not turn your back on me. Do not reject your servant in anger. You have always been my helper. Don’t leave me now; don’t abandon me, O God of my salvation! Even if my father and mother abandon me, the Lord will hold me close.”
Psalms 27:9-10 NLT Do you ever have those moments when you "feel" like you have done something that has caused God to turn away from you? Have you ever faced adversity and "felt" alone? David, the shepherd boy, warrior, and king of Israel had those same emotions. Feelings are a part of our lives and they can often help us experience things with animation. However, feelings can also be our own enemy. When we allow our feelings to dictate our actions, we find ourselves on unstable ground. Feelings are sometimes, and many times are, opposite of our faith and can influence us in the flesh rather than the Spirit (see Galatians 5:16). When this happens, we are misled and we make determinations based upon fleeting emotion rather than the rock solid principles of God's Word. The devil uses this strategy against us. Like David, we must shake ourselves in the moment of uncertainty and arrive at the bedrock conclusion that God is there and we can, with confidence, know that He will not abandon His child. Yes, sometimes we make bad choices. Yes, sometimes we lose our composure in a moment of emotion. Regardless, God never changes. We change, but God doesn't! We can rely on His faithfulness! We are unreliable. He is reliable! We "feel" all sorts of ways. God is constant and unchanging! This doesn't mean that He isn't touched by our struggle (see Hebrews 4:15). The problem is our fallen state of existence. We live in the corruptible and mortal world that sin has created. In the midst of this existence, we must place our reliance upon the unchanging God and His unchanging truth! No matter how you "feel" today, let these promises raise you up and set your feet upon a solid rock. “He lifted me out of the pit of despair, out of the mud and the mire. He set my feet on solid ground and steadied me as I walked along.” Psalms 40:2 NLT These promises will establish your way today. “I am the Lord, and I do not change..." Malachi 3:6 NLT “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.” Hebrews 13:8 NLT “...And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”” Matthew 28:20 NLT
