“But God also rescued Lot out of Sodom because he was a righteous man who was sick of the shameful immorality of the wicked people around him. Yes, Lot was a righteous man who was tormented in his soul by the wickedness he saw and heard day after day.” 2 Peter 2:7-8 NLT
Lot, his wife, and two daughters were living in the midst of unbridled and twisted perversion. Lot had chosen to move to this area in Genesis 11. This area was attractive and appeared to be the place where Lot wanted to raise his family and grow his herds. There was only one problem. The people of the area were ungodly. “So Abram settled in the land of Canaan, and Lot moved his tents to a place near Sodom and settled among the cities of the plain. But the people of this area were extremely wicked and constantly sinned against the Lord.” Genesis 13:12-13 NLT This setting caused serious concern for Lot and his family. Lot hated the culture around him. He did not agree with its wicked deeds. This had to affect his wife and daughters. Being in the midst of a wicked culture has influence upon our families. When they were ordered to leave (see Genesis 19:1-29), it must have been hard to let go of the lifestyle they had become accustomed to. Often we, too, are caught in the web of our culture because we grow accustomed to the conveniences and creature comforts it affords. All the while, we lose our spiritual bearings and become contaminated with our own consumption. Eventually, we are so caught up in the culture that we forget the righteous principles of Almighty God. We weaken in our convictions and we acclimate to social and political correctness. I pray that God will make us sick of the wickedness in our society like Lot was in his time. Like Lot, I pray God will deliver me and my family out of Sodom and Gomorrah. We are living in a time where we are being deceived and deluded in our spiritual thinking. I respect authority and believe we are to submit to it, as God commands (see Romans 13:1-7 and 1 Peter 2:13-17), in order to maintain stability and civility. However, when men want to have reconstructive surgery to become a woman (ex. Bruce Jenner), our government says it’s ok for men to use women’s restrooms, and just because the Supreme Court makes a decision that same sex marriage is constitutional, it DOES NOT CHANGE THE TRUTH OF GOD’S WORD!!! God is the Supreme Court of our lives. Ultimately, we answer to Him. May we pray, today, that we will allow God to help us see the world through His eyes and live under His watching. Does anything in the culture around us bother you?? God help us!!
