You who are slaves must submit to your masters with all respect. Do what they tell you—not only if they are kind and reasonable, but even if they are cruel. For God is pleased when, conscious of his will, you patiently endure unjust treatment. Of course, you get no credit for being patient if you are beaten for doing wrong. But if you suffer for doing good and endure it patiently, God is pleased with you.” 1 Peter 2:18-20 NLT
Paul addresses the master, slave relationship that was common in that time. He speaks about the need to submit to those in authority over us. This same principle is applicable in Employer/Employee relationships. Submitting to authority is a very important principle and practice in every area of our lives, even when we are mistreated. God is watching everything we do. He sees our obedient, submissive conduct and He also sees the way we are treated, fairly or unjustly. God expects us to conduct ourselves in the most honorable fashion as His children. We represent Him. Whether we are the one in authority or the one under authority, we are to be conscientious of our treatment of, and conduct toward, one another. God will hold us accountable for our individual conduct. He will reward those who have conducted themselves obediently and honorably, especially those who have endured harsh, cruel treatment. He will also judge those who have been disobedient or who have mistreated others. No matter what you are facing today, do what is right before God. He is watching you and your behavior toward others. ““Do to others whatever you would like them to do to you. This is the essence of all that is taught in the law and the prophets.” Matthew 7:12 NLT
