" If you claim to be religious but don’t control your tongue, you are fooling yourself, and your religion is worthless.”
James 1:26 NLT Wow! What a statement! The tongue is a main indicator of the condition of the heart. When a man, or woman, cannot bridle their tongue it is apparent that their heart is not right with God. God is listening to every word we say. He knows every thought we think. He sees every deed we do. It would do us well to constantly be conscientious of God's omnipresence (ever presence) and omniscience (all knowledge). There is nothing that escapes His notice. Today, try thinking about God's awareness in everything you think, say, and do. When we bear this in mind, in everything, it helps us live a life that pleases God. We cannot attend church, praise God, and then use the same mouth and tongue to curse others. “People can tame all kinds of animals, birds, reptiles, and fish, but no one can tame the tongue. It is restless and evil, full of deadly poison. Sometimes it praises our Lord and Father, and sometimes it curses those who have been made in the image of God. And so blessing and cursing come pouring out of the same mouth. Surely, my brothers and sisters, this is not right!” James 3:7-10 NLT Consider these verses: “Those who control their tongue will have a long life; opening your mouth can ruin everything.” Proverbs 13:3 NLT “The tongue of the wise makes knowledge appealing, but the mouth of a fool belches out foolishness.” Proverbs 15:2 NLT “The crooked heart will not prosper; the lying tongue tumbles into trouble.” Proverbs 17:20 NLT “Watch your tongue and keep your mouth shut, and you will stay out of trouble.” Proverbs 21:23 NLT
