We know that God’s children do not make a practice of sinning, for God’s Son holds them securely, and the evil one cannot touch them. We know that we are children of God and that the world around us is under the control of the evil one.” 1 John 5:18-19 NLT
Habitual sin is the issue. Each one of us has the potential to sin. As children of God we are still living in a fallen world and we still dwell in a mortal body. Our carnal (flesh - old man) nature still lurks around in the shadows of our lives. We are under surveillance by the forces of darkness. They lie in wait for an opportune moment. When we let down our guard and relax our spiritual awareness, Satan's forces move in for assault. Every day we are under attack by enemy forces. This is a spiritual war we are fighting. “For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.” Ephesians 6:12 NLT This war is real and we must take this seriously. When we are born again, we are transformed from children of darkness into children of the light. “For you are all children of the light and of the day; we don’t belong to darkness and night.” 1 Thessalonians 5:5 NLT Jesus said it like this: “Put your trust in the light while there is still time; then you will become children of the light.” John 12:36a NLT When we listen to, and obey, the Word of God we conquer the sinful man. “I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.” Psalms 119:11 NLT Our positional righteousness, as children of God, is accomplished through Jesus Christ our Lord. We are accepted by God through no other means ((John 14:6; Acts 4:12; Romans 5:1; 2 Corinthians 5:21; I Timothy 2:5-6). Our salvation isn't the question here. Our daily practice as believers is the issue. The Holy Spirit, who dwells within the believer, will help us overcome. He is the very nature and presence of God within us. When we choose to read the Word of God, meditate upon its precepts, and ask the Holy Spirit to help us live by it's principles, we become fortified against Satanic assault. When we ignore these things, we become vulnerable to the temptation of sin. “If you think you are standing strong, be careful not to fall. The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure.” 1 Corinthians 10:12-13 NLT Any of us can fall to sin on any given day. We must be conscientious of this fact and strive, by the power of the Holy Spirit, to live a life of holiness before God. We should not abuse God's grace. Yes, it is available and always ready. However, we must remember the price that was paid for our sin - the very body and blood of Jesus!!! O, how we should be grateful for the body and blood of Jesus!!!!!!! Let us live in His honor. We are sheep, not pigs. We have no business wallowing in the mud. Let us live like children of God! If we do sin, we have an attorney named Jesus who will take our case and settle it. He charges no fee, He is always available, and He is directly accessible. He is the only one who can plead our case and get us cleared of the charges. “My dear children, I am writing this to you so that you will not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate who pleads our case before the Father. He is Jesus Christ, the one who is truly righteous. He himself is the sacrifice that atones for our sins—and not only our sins but the sins of all the world.” 1 John 2:1-2 NLT
