“So you must live as God’s obedient children. Don’t slip back into your old ways of living to satisfy your own desires. You didn’t know any better then. But now you must be holy in everything you do, just as God who chose you is holy. For the Scriptures say, “You must be holy because I am holy.”” 1 Peter 1:14-16 NLT
Peter is referring to Leviticus 11:44-45; 19:1-2: 20:7 Since we identify ourselves as children of God we must live our lives in obedience to Him. We are changed creatures. “This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!” 2 Corinthians 5:17 NLT (see also Ephesians 2:1-10). The old man is dead! Through Jesus Christ, we are made new. Since we are no longer slaves to sin, we are called and commanded by God to conduct our affairs in a manner that reflects His likeness. A tree cannot claim to be an apple tree if it bears pears. The evidence of our profession is in our fruit. Fruit is defined as the natural yielding of something. If we are truly Christ's, we, too, should produce fruit that evidences our profession. Jesus said it like this: ““A tree is identified by its fruit. If a tree is good, its fruit will be good. If a tree is bad, its fruit will be bad.” Matthew 12:33 NLT Today, let us be conscientious of our words, thoughts, and deeds. May they be submissive to the Lordship of Jesus Christ. “May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing to you, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.” Psalms 19:14 NLT
