“O God, look with favor upon the king, our shield! Show favor to the one you have anointed. A single day in your courts is better than a thousand anywhere else! I would rather be a gatekeeper in the house of my God than live the good life in the homes of the wicked. For the Lord God is our sun and our shield. He gives us grace and glory. The Lord will withhold no good thing from those who do what is right. O Lord of Heaven’s Armies, what joy for those who trust in you.” Psalms 84:9-12 NLT
In Israel, a king was their "president", but in a different form of authority. As the king lived, so went the nation. The Lords's anointing was absolutely critical to the nations successful function and future. We, too, should pray for our divinely designated leader! We are instructed to do this in 1 Timothy 2: “I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them. Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity. This is good and pleases God our Savior, who wants everyone to be saved and to understand the truth.” 1 Timothy 2:1-4 NLT Yes, Lord! Bless the President of the United States. You have allowed him to serve in this position. Guard him, protect him, promote him, prosper him. Make him a man of principle. Prick his heart with the finger of Your hand. Our nation is dependent upon Your blessing. Without it, we are doomed. Secondly, the psalmist makes a statement that encapsulates my heart. "A single day in your courts is better than a thousand anywhere else." How true!! There is nothing, and no one, that can hold a candle to the light that God's presence casts upon my soul. My life is absolutely complete when I'm in His presence. There, I find utter peace and contentment. There I find complete rest. There, I find inexpressible joy. The list goes on forever!! Then, in a statement of faith, the psalmist shows his devotion to God by saying: I'd rather be a gatekeeper in the house of my God than to live the good life in the homes of the wicked." AMEN!! I share his perspective. God is everything to us. Without Him, we do not exist and we pass into oblivion without hope. Because He is, we can know the certainty of present confidence, the embrace of needed comfort, and the prospect of the coming eternal kingdom. God is our provider. Everything we need is found in Him!!! He is Jehovah-Jireh!!! He is our Father! Our Father wants what is best for us. He wants to pour out His goodness upon us. We must trust in Him and place our steps in line with His Word! When we do this, great things take place!! Today, ask God to direct your steps in accordance with His Word! Only good can come when you do that. “Guide my steps by your word, so I will not be overcome by evil.” Psalms 119:133 NLT “But if you remain in me and my words remain in you, you may ask for anything you want, and it will be granted!” John 15:7 NLT
