“He has given me a new song to sing, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see what he has done and be amazed. They will put their trust in the Lord.” Psalms 40:3 NLT
When God picks us up out of the mire and sets our feet on solid ground, a jubilant song finds its way onto our lips. Our tongues begin to proclaim the goodness and grace of Almighty God! Our hearts are renewed and set ablaze with praises to the Lord! Are you in a pit of despair? Are you downcast and discouraged? Do you wonder if deliverance will come? Stand firm and stand still! The salvation of the Lord will come!! When the children of Israel were facing the Red Sea in front of them and Pharaohs army behind them, they began complaining in this way: “and they said to Moses, “Why did you bring us out here to die in the wilderness? Weren’t there enough graves for us in Egypt? What have you done to us? Why did you make us leave Egypt? Didn’t we tell you this would happen while we were still in Egypt? We said, ‘Leave us alone! Let us be slaves to the Egyptians. It’s better to be a slave in Egypt than a corpse in the wilderness!’” But Moses told the people, “Don’t be afraid. Just stand still and watch the Lord rescue you today. The Egyptians you see today will never be seen again. The Lord himself will fight for you. Just stay calm.”” Exodus 14:11-14 NLT Don't let your impatience drive you to make substandard choices that will only complicate matters. Wait!! When you don't know what to do, do nothing! Stand still and let God move. Fighting the quick sand that is trying to swallow you is counterproductive. The Red Sea in front of you is no match for the God who is over you! Just like the children of Israel, God sees your circumstances and hears your cry for help. In His mercy, He will bring you deliverance if you will simply trust in Him. When He does, like David, you will spring forth with a renewed vigor and a song of praise. When the children of Israel made it across the Red Sea, on dry ground I might add (see Exodus 14:21-22, 29; 15:19), they sang a song of deliverance too (see Exodus 15:1-21). Think of all the times in the past that He brought you out of some very desperate places. Let the testimony of the past be the reminder of His unfailing faithfulness in the present. He is already there, ahead of you. He is in the future! Your future is Him!!! Focus on Him, praise Him in the midst of the storm, and expect Him to take care of you. Don't look to the left. Don't look to the right! Tomorrow isn't here. Yesterday is gone. Today is the present. Live in the gift of this day. Sing, laugh, and joy in the goodness of God!!!
