“I want you to know how much I have agonized for you and for the church at Laodicea, and for many other believers who have never met me personally. I want them to be encouraged and knit together by strong ties of love. I want them to have complete confidence that they understand God’s mysterious plan, which is Christ himself. In him lie hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.” Colossians 2:1-3 NLT
Colossae and Laodicea were located in the same valley in Asia Minor (what we now call Turkey). These two locations had congregations of believers. Paul truly loved these fellow believers. He had anguished for them because he wanted them to be united in the love of Jesus. He wanted them all to be of the same mind and one accord, especially when it came to their understanding of who Jesus really is. His ultimate concern was that they understood the identity of Jesus Christ. Jesus was, and is, so much more than a religious leader. Paul states that Jesus Christ is the embodiment of all wisdom and knowledge. This is quite a statement. When you consider the implications of such a statement you are left only one conclusion - to recognize the divinity of Jesus Christ. Only God possesses all wisdom and knowledge. God was in Christ expressing Himself to the world. “For God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, no longer counting people’s sins against them. And he gave us this wonderful message of reconciliation.” 2 Corinthians 5:19 NLT We, as believers in Jesus Christ, need to contemplate the greatness of our Lord. Through Him we come to God - “Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.”John 14:6 NLT By Him we know God and see God - Jesus replied, “Have I been with you all this time, Philip, and yet you still don’t know who I am? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father! So why are you asking me to show him to you?” John 14:9 NLT He, Jesus, is everything we need, both now and forever!!!
