Slaves, obey your earthly masters with deep respect and fear. Serve them sincerely as you would serve Christ. Try to please them all the time, not just when they are watching you. As slaves of Christ, do the will of God with all your heart. Work with enthusiasm, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. Remember that the Lord will reward each one of us for the good we do, whether we are slaves or free. Masters, treat your slaves in the same way. Don’t threaten them; remember, you both have the same Master in heaven, and he has no favorites.” Ephesians 6:5-9 NLT
Paul was addressing the attitude and conduct of Christian slaves and Christian masters. Slavery was common in that time. Working hard for masters was an act of service to God Himself. Being a considerate master was also an act and attitude to God. We must remember the same. Ultimately, we are working for God. May He help us, today, to demonstrate His likeness in our attitude with our boss and in our work for them. In the same sense, the master (boss) should remember that they have to answer to God for the treatment of their subordinates. God is watching! In everything we do may we be conscientiously aware of that fact. I leave you with two scriptures: “And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father.” Colossians 3:17 NLT ““Do to others whatever you would like them to do to you. This is the essence of all that is taught in the law and the prophets.” Matthew 7:12 NLT
