Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony. And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members of one body you are called to live in peace. And always be thankful.” Colossians 3:14-15 NLT
The one garment that we should put on every morning is love. If we enter the day without this attribute of Jesus Christ we will be naked and indecent. The love of God binds us together as one family. It covers all the wounds and scars of our lives. In I Peter 4:8 we read: “Most important of all, continue to show deep love for each other, for love covers a multitude of sins.” NLT. When we love God we will, correspondingly, love one another. Jesus said this: “So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.” John 13:34-35 NLT The Holy Spirit, speaking through the apostle John, said it like this: "Dear friends, let us continue to love one another, for love comes from God. Anyone who loves is a child of God and knows God. But anyone who does not love does not know God, for God is love.” 1 John 4:7-8 NLT Moved by the Holy Spirit, Paul said it like this: "If I could speak all the languages of earth and of angels, but didn’t love others, I would only be a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. If I had the gift of prophecy, and if I understood all of God’s secret plans and possessed all knowledge, and if I had such faith that I could move mountains, but didn’t love others, I would be nothing. If I gave everything I have to the poor and even sacrificed my body, I could boast about it; but if I didn’t love others, I would have gained nothing.” 1 Corinthians 13:1-3 NLT When we love others we can can live in peace and harmony. This requires intentional effort. We must work hard at staying unified. The enemy, the devil, wants us divided and disrupted in any way possible. Let's stand together as one body in Christ. Let's be thankful that we are His children, focus on the major things, and minimize the minors. We have work to do for the cause of Christ. Let's represent Him well.
