“For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ.” 2 Corinthians 5:21 NLT
What a statement concerning Jesus!!! He took upon Himself our sin, yet He never sinned. This is a most significant statement in respect to Jesus being sinless. Without this truth we would be utterly and eternally lost. The substitution for our sins had to be perfect. The only way for that to be was for God Himself to become a human being. Every descendant from Adam is sinful. The only hope was for God to become one of us. He did this through the virgin birth. Mary, the young maiden who God chose to carry His Son, was a virgin. She had known no man sexually. She was chaste and chosen. God, The Father, chose Mary as the woman who's womb would carry His Son, Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit was the agent of conception. “Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.” Isaiah 7:14 KJV Immanuel literally means "God with us". “Mary asked the angel, “But how can this happen? I am a virgin.” The angel replied, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the baby to be born will be holy, and he will be called the Son of God.” Luke 1:34-35 NLT The blood of this baby would be sinless since He was the Son of God Himself. This qualified Him as the substitutionary sacrifice. Without His sinlessness we would be hopeless. This is why God had to become a man. Only a sinless man could die in the place of sinful humanity. Since Adam was the first man and he sinned, thus condemning all of his descendants, there had to come another Adam (original Hebrew word from which we get Adam means "man"). Jesus was the substitutionary "Adam". “The Scriptures tell us, “The first man, Adam, became a living person.” But the last Adam—that is, Christ—is a life-giving Spirit.” 1 Corinthians 15:45 NLT Jesus "became sin for us" (meaning He bore our sins on Himself) so we could be made righteous in God's sight. Those who accept Jesus as their Savior and Lord receive this right standing with God. Wow!! Only God could make this possible. This ought to make every human being shout with eternal joy! The sad thing is that so many refuse to kneel before the matchless Son of God and receive His pardon. I don't understand this, but yet I do. Satan has blinded the hearts and minds of men to this liberating truth. I'm glad to know I am a child of God. I am the righteousness of God in Christ. Hallelujah, I am free!! Prayer for today: Father, in Jesus name, thank you for becoming a man and dying in my place. I deserved to die but You died as my substitution. Through Jesus Christ I am free from the penalty and power of sin.
